Creative approaches to fashion

I have enjoyed this project it has been fun working in this way.... starting with a point then leading on from that into different ideas for example: in this project i started looking at buttons as a fastening, i then looked at zips as they were also a fastening, then i looked at train tracks as ithey looked like zips etc..
I began a body of work and developed ideas for my final garment.
I think i could have done a lot better if i would have done a few prototypes or had practiced doing this before the project, but ive only ever done pattern cutting once so i have found this very challeneging, but this will help when i do anything like this in another project.
I was quite pleased with my outcome but feel it could have been better, my body of work did show a good development and i hope that when people look at my garment they can relate it to my work. The structure was inspired by Thomas Heatherwick, as most of his sculptures had this i decided to use this in my design, so there were more pleates and short hard sleeves, also a square neckline.

Fashion Art and Culture- First Project

The first project we did was called Fashion art and culture, I didnt really know what to expect, coming straight from A-levels and not stydying fashion, I was glad that we wernt thrown straight into designing and making garments. it gave me a chance to reseach designers that I hadn't heard about or to go in to depth on the ones I had heard about also different eras in fashion which we then chose the ones we liked and went into more depth on.

Looking at my research leading towards my final piece I feel I could have done better as I should have shown a more step by step approach on how I got there, showing how i have designed it and made it. However I feel my reseach and inspiration from looking in to art movements, artisits etc, has helped me produce a successful exhibition piece.

I looked into 1920's fashion- 'make do and mend', I loved this era but I decided to look into punk style and use this as a base of my final piece.

I choose Paco Rabanne and the Queen of Punk fashion Vivienne Westwood I feel that my work did produce frivolity and a sense of integument which I hoped for at the beginning of the brief. From combining both artists I came up with the idea of a miniture cut out foam board circles and attach them together by staples, in the style of Rabanne and then use inspiration from Westwood on the decoration. In both the artists work they use stars, this is why i chose to have big stars decorated in punk style attached to my final piece. I used different materials on them and put them together from inspiration of 'make do and mend'.

I named my exhibition ''Heavy Metal'' (10 till 5 in the Paris gallery 'Espace Dali') this was because it linked with both artists, i think even though i tried to make my exhibition piece in prototype and it not working aswell, i think the name still suits because thats what my exhibition would be about.

Im really happy with the outcome and have really enjoyed this project.
