Hyperreal Outdoors

Hyperreality is basically th inibility to distinguish reality from fantasy. It is a means to characterize the way consciousness defines what is actually real in the world where a mulitude of media can radically shape and filter an original event or experience.

It can be recognised within symbols and signs where people see something as having a meaning for example the Mayor wears gold chains around his neck to show people his importance and power but in actual fact they are just chains, and if a normal street child was wearing them it would be classed as a 'chav'

I see Hyperreal Outdoors as a place that is man made, something that portrays as real but isnt, like a football stadium with false grass or even a beach that has been man made.

Cultural Overlay

Where you come from, what you believe in, what you wear, all shows a sense of who you are and where you have been brouhgt up.
I see overlay as a build up of things something being forced, therefore cultural overlay would mean to me a uild up of different cultures all coming together to form an overlap in society, for example: In the centre of Birmingham there are pockets of different cultures that come together, such as: Chinatown, Irishtown and quite a few different areas for different religions to take place for catholics, muslims, sikhs etc.
Another example could be at a festival, as many different people come together to watcg music and share interest.
For my summer research i would like to look more into the style at festivals.
