Lecture 2- Renaissance, High Renaissance, Mannerism
These images are from Lecture two; work of Filippo Brunelleschi.
He is one of the most formost architects of the italian Renaissance. All of his work are in Florence, Italy.
I absolutly love his arcitecture they are some of the most beautiful works in Florence my favourite woruld be the 'San Lorenzo, Florence, 1421-40' as the ouside of the building is basic but then is extravagance is in the interior.

This painting caused so much controversy and even caused a lawauit, because people believed that the Virgin Mary has a westernised apperance or blues eyes, blonde hair. The painting depicted a black African Mary surrounded by close-up images od female genitallia cut from pornographic magazines, and elephant dung. This is very interesting as it gives insight to people who sterotype and are narrow minded, because there is no right or wrong as nobody really knows what the Virgin Mary looks like and each person are intitled to their own opinion.

Leon Battista Alberti was another architect we looked at in lecture 2. His work was done after 'Filippo Brunelleschi' comparing the two you can see the difference in style within 30- 50 years. The structure looks more simplictic and the design looks more modern.
Santa Maria Novella, Florence, 1456-1470 is probably my favourite out of the two as its different to a lot of the work i have seen; its design is fresh and interesting as they come across as expensive and extravagant but were made quite cheaply.

Andrea Palladio is an Italian Renaissance architect he was largely influences by Roman and Greek architecture. Still now he is widley considered the most influential individual in the history os Western architecture. All of his buildings are loacted in northern Itlay, and are all built with the intension of having practicality rather than eccentric and extravagant detail within his designs. I feel they still show extravagance but simplicity also, this is why his architecture is one of my favourite arcitectures.

Leonardo Da Vinci
During the lecture we were told the famous painting of the Mona Lisa has no significance and its only 'famous for being famous' whereas the self portrait created out of red chalk was quite meaningful but never seemed to have the famous status of the Mona Lisa.
I've really enjoyed learning about different periods in time on art history, it has been so influential and had such an impact on art, fashion and culture today. My favourite parts of Contextual Studies were the seminars as we got to talk in depth about the lectures so i got to understand more.
