Creative Design Realisation

Fashion is subject to characteristics of individuality portrayed through creativity. As fashion makes a statement of what group you belong to or who you are and how you express yourself, it is important to capture the right design when creating a garment.

A journey into making my fashion garment began when we were given six different words that we had to get definitions for, this helped as I was able to 're-jog' my memory and have a grasp on different fastenings and different designs that can be incorporated within the garment such as flared skirt, facings etc.

Within the file of work we had to do dart manipulations; starting off seemed confusing but after repetion step by step of each dart it began to get much easier. This was really handy from doing calico samples and paper samples i understood how each dart would look which made it better for designing and making my garment. I did enjoy doing the dart, skirt, and sleeve manipulations as I found it very useful as I have never done anything like this before. Making the sleeve out of calico was a great help also as it made me much more confident in inserting my small puff sleeves into the bodice.

Finally getting to my working drawing and eventually managing to make a garment; which included a three tier skirt, the bodice was made using princess line seam and there were also short puffed sleeves. Accomplishing it has made me pleased as in my eyes I did a complicated working drawing. Out of my garment structure I would have to say I found the three tiered skirt the most challenging as they were in full circles but after I realised how to put it all together I was able to complete my garment.

Overall within in this module I have grasped how differnent manipulations work and I can always refer back to my file to help me. I have found this module 'tricky' and a bit of a challenge but I am very pleased with the outcome.

Working through step by step on facings to darts to skirts etc in my folder has helped me immensly as I have never had a go at practicing manipulations and then making a garment so precise afterwards. I have enjoyed it and found it interesting working through my folder and presenting it in this way too.

If i could do my garment again i would have tried a less complicated design as it ws very time consuming. i would have probably choosen fewer tiers and bigger puff sleeves as the smaller sleeves which i did were very difficult to do as the curve in the sleeve was hard to sew around. Doing it this way i would have more time on my technical file.

All in all this project has been my favourite so far, as I have learnt so many new things which has helped me to progress and understand making garments and how they are put together, and the technical file i can always use to refer back to for help.
